Christine Crawford MD MPH

CHILD, ADOLESCENT, & ADULT PSYCHIATRIST

Dr. Christine M. Crawford is a Boston child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist whose work bridges academic psychiatry, community mental health, and public education. She serves as Associate Medical Director at the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and previously as Vice Chair of Education and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, where she also directed medical student education. At Boston Medical Center, she provides outpatient care in the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic and Wellness and Recovery After Psychosis (WRAP) program and has led school-based mental health care as Medical Director for the Boston Public Health Commission’s clinician program in Boston Public Schools.

A nationally recognized educator and media commentator on youth mental health, Dr. Crawford is the author of You Are Not Alone: The NAMI Guide to Navigating Your Child’s Mental Health, a resource for parents and caregivers navigating complex symptoms, stigma, and systems of care. Dr. Crawford is a media expert and often appears on television to include the Today Show. At Webster Clinic in Boston’s Back Bay, she offers evidence-based, family-centered psychiatric care for children, adolescents, adults, and couples, integrating psychodynamic psychotherapy and medication with thoughtful coordination with schools, pediatricians, and community clinicians so care feels less fragmented and more coherent. Ideal for families seeking depth, clarity, and partnership, particularly those navigating early psychosis, significant mood and anxiety disorders, and the impact of racism and structural inequity on youth and family life.

Dr. Crawford has a depth of expertise working with professionals, BIPOC families and individuals, and the LGBTQIA+ community.

  • People often turn to Dr. Crawford when they or their child or adolescent is facing significant mood or anxiety disorders, or school and work related crises, and they want a Boston psychiatrist who understands both clinical complexity and the realities of schools, the workplace, public systems, and stigma. She is especially well suited for Black women and other Black professionals seeking care for themselves or their children, who are navigating racism, sexism, workplace stress, and caregiving demands. Parents, caregivers, and individual adults come to her for psychiatric care that looks carefully at school/work supports, public resources, and how to move through serious mental health concerns over time in a way that protects both themselves and/or their children. Caring and supporting others starts with caring for ourselves.
